When presented with the problem of cutting their high quality glass awards, Tobias Glass, based in Worksop, Nottinghamshire, always employs the skills and craftsmanship of Control Waterjet Cutting.

Control Waterjet Cutting specialises in cutting art and design related materials for the creative and craft markets.  Explaining why Control Waterjet Cutting specialises in the art and design market, Claire Smith, Managing Director of Waterjet, said, “We have developed this market through understanding the needs of our clients.  When there is a difficult and complex job with very fine cutting and technical problems we will provide a no fuss solution.  The challenges can be technical with an innovative approach to overcoming the production problems relating to a material or cutting form.  We feel our company’s approach to working with our clients and the high service levels we give is our edge in this market.”

Tobias produce glass tableware, sculpture and awards using a range of techniques, which include: profile cutting; bending; sandblasting; casting; polishing; enamelling and etching.  The form of their creations is more frequently relying on waterjet cutting technology to produce the design.  This is particularly the case with the awards they produce.

Commenting on the awards Svafa Einarsdottir, partner and founder of Tobias, said, “More and more of our award designs are being cut.  We could cast the glass but this would be much more costly.  We have found the waterjet cutting process very reliable.  It uses erosion to gently cut through the glass leaving a good finish on the edge.

We are in a very competitive market with clients that range from The National Magazine Company to EMAP .  In this market good design and excellent service are the keys.  We have to be able to design an award and produce it with a first class service.  To do this we rely on good suppliers like Control Waterjet Cutting, who undertake all the waterjet cutting for our awards.   They give a fast efficient service and will always go the extra mile to help us when we have a tight deadline to meet.”
